ТHE MOTHER FIELD

Following Chinghiz Aitmatov’s famous story, which he dedicated to his parents, this production deals with our predestination, sorrow, happiness, courage and destiny. The widow who lost her husband in World War II, mother of three sons, comes out into the field to share her grievous tale with mother earth. It is a story of her love, motherhood, bitter loss, and pride for her children, true to their soldiers’ duty. It is a story of the unfortunate daughter-in-law Aliman who, already a widow, gave birth to a child by a handsome shepherd, and departed this life with the first cry of her newborn. Zhanbolat is for Tolgonay the only kindred soul on Earth, the meaning of her life. When he grows up, she will tell him the whole story of their family, which mirrored the destiny of their nation. But while he is still a small child, Tolgonay is speaking to the field, to the Earth, mother of all creation. This conversation of an earthly mother with Mother Earth sounds as an unpretentious, modest hymn to motherhood, human dignity and wisdom…
