Victoria Tierre-Chaplin

Victoria Tierre-Chaplin, daughter of the great actor, was born in 1951 in Santa Monica and grew up in Switzerland. She met her husband, Jean-Baptiste Thierry, in 1969, after he read in a magazine article of her father about the aspiration of Victoria to become a circus clown and invited her to create a new type of circus together with him. Soon they appeared as two clowns in the episode of "The Clowns" by Federico Fellini, and their first joint program was called “Le Cirque Bonjour", premiered in Avignon in 1971. This was followed by the creation of “Le Cirque Imaginaire”, which later, in 1990, became a “Le Cirque Invisible”. Victoria and Jean-Baptiste are the pioneers of the contemporary circus and the inspirers of other companies such as Cirque du Soleil. Their children, James and Aurelia Thierry, are circus performers who started working with their parents. Juliet Thierry, their eldest daughter, is a painter. In 2006, Victoria Chaplin was awarded the French National Theatre Award Molière for the development of costumes for her son’s show “The Junebug Symphony”.
