A GENTLE CREATURE

The creators of the play "The Meek One" believe that the force of attraction that Dostoevsky's works exerts on the performing arts lies in one of the essential characteristics of his artistic method. This characteristic can be defined as a specific dramatic predominance in the epic narrative. Dostoevsky tells the story of a certain human-being, which provokes readers to reflect on the destiny of humanity as a whole and encourages them to seek answers to pressing moral and social questions. This approach crosses the line of research at Cia Teatro da Cidade, where, for more than two decades, the narrative language has assumed its maximum power in discovering humanity.

The production of "A gentle creature" was conceived as an offering to the great Russian writer in honour of the 200th anniversary of his birth. An international team from Brazil, Colombia, China, Russia and Syria managed to create a holistic, emotionally charged theatrical performance and pay tribute to the universal significance of Dostoevsky's work.
