There is plenty of humor and a spark of absurdity in Victoria Thierrée-Chaplin’s world. For the new show, Aurélia Thierrée gets inside the skin of a kleptomaniac. She is opening the door to her imagination, with its shades of poetic unease. Plunged into the world of a kleptomaniac, this multifaceted artist finds herself manipulated by the objects she steals, under their influence. These objects belong to a world which has a mind of its own. A coat rack gets up and walks. Chairs and a table slide, and slip away, while a wall opens up and a pair of dancers emerge. A dress suddenly takes on a life of its own… Here the bizarre stands next to the supernatural and all kinds of mirages are making you smile and dream. In Bells and Spells, there is no place for logic, reason, or sobriety. Aurélia Thierrée and Jaime Martinez take us through hallucinatory lands, where surreal humor is combined with a sense of the otherworldly.
