Play “Big Lie” was written in 1910 and immediately became popular with public who at that time showed intent interest in the theme of intelligentsia and its ethical problems. The new theatre was being bom, focussed on the problems of broad public concern, boldly breaking through moral and other taboos.
In 1917 “Big Lie” won the Griboyedov Prize. Highly successful were the productions of this play at the Nezlobin Theatre in Moscow and Alexandrinsky Theatre in Petersburg in 1916.
