During the 25 years of its existence, the blackSKYwhite Theatre, created in 1988 by Dmitry Aryupin and Marcella Soltan, won the main prizes at all the major European theatre festivals, but before participation in the Theatre Olympics in 2001, it never performed in Moscow.
The only Russian theatre to be the owner of two main awards of the Edinburgh Festival: Fringe First (theatre innovation and outstanding new production) and Total Theatre (design concept and outstanding acting technique). Productions of the theatre were three times nominated for the National Theatre Award "Golden Mask". Marcella Soltan is the only actress in Europe to have received Furder Prize. Among the awards of the theatre are also Prix de la Critique, Zlota Kareta, and many others. The blackSKYwhite Theatre has performed at almost one hundred international theatre festivals, including those where Russian artists have never been presented. For several years the theatre's productions were the main event of the theatre section of the Glastonbury festival, the largest open-air festival, which gathers up to 300 000 people from all over the world.
