The main theme of the play is the absence of love in this “absolutely incredible event” by Gogol. The director emphasizes the vulgarity and despiritualization of the approach to the concept of “marriage” in society, as well as the theme of the humiliating process of “matchmaking”, the main victim of which is the bride, who sincerely seeks love and never finds it. “Marriage” by E. Marcelli is a new interpretation of the classic play, which possesses everything: sparkling humor, and recognizable, far from caricature, characters, and a tender young bride, and even a choir of amazing beauty, soulfully performing folk wedding songs.
