Founded by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod in 1981 to reexamine the classic repertoire in a fresh and unsentimental way, focusing on the actors performance. The rise of the company was meteoric. «Cheek by Jowl» has represented Britain at most of the world's festivals with performances from Rio- de-Janeiro to Moscow. Last year «Time Magazine» pronounced «Cheek by Jowl» one of the ten great theatre companies in the world.
Nick Ormerod studied law at the Cambridge University and graduated from the Wimbledon Arts School, department of theatre design. Together with Donnellan he was the founder of the «Cheek by Jowl».
