Staged by James Thierrée “The Red Tobacco” is styled like a choreographic drama: it includes dance and circus, dramatic action and pantomime. An elderly man is obsessed with the idea of creativity. He is in the state of permanent confrontation with the world inhabited by weird creatures. He also conflicts with his reflection in a huge mirror. An enormous wall is overhanging the stage threateningly marking the border between the spaces of dreams and of reality. The style of staging echoes some of Thierrée’s earlier works (...) And there is something in him of King Lear, Ulysses, Narcissus and Alice in Wonderland. On the other hand there is plenty of Thierrée’s own personality. And there is no tobacco. Maybe just a little…
