5 Angry Men is a public space theatre company committed to commentary on contemporary culture and the manipulations of contemporary meanings of universally clear symbols. The company devises five distinctive yet kindred characters – the 5 angry men. They create strong visual images submerged in sound/music generated by high-energy performance/movement/dance. Underscoring the work of 5 Angry Men is always an inherent wry humour.
The Bells performance moves through a series of images and composed musical pieces exploring the human capacity to hold a paradox - friendship, co-operation and camaraderie, the violent struggle for power, status and aggressive competition, work and duty, suffering and joy, death and celebration, absurdity and hope, and the role of the individual in a group facing a task.
The apparatus used for The Bells is a combination of mechanical and electronic devices connected to five large bell ropes, thus creating a very large music instrument. Precisely choreographed and intricately timed movement/dance/drama is inseparable from the music performed. It is am extremely physical piece demanding a great deal of endurance and discipline from the performer.
