STRANGE FRUIT
Artistic director Roderick Poole (Аustralia)

Strange Fruit is a theatrical company that puts on performances in the air. The five-meter, flexible poles are fixed to the ground and raise the artists high above the audience’s heads. The actors assume their positions at the top of these poles and, skillfully guiding them, perform the most unusual pirouettes in the air. This is genuine ‘ballet in the air’ performed to a whimsical medley of classical music, Latin American rhythms, and French vaudeville melodies. Strange Fruit has possibly finally succeeded in realizing mankind’s long-cherished dream of leaving the ground and taking off in flight. One of their performances is called just that – Flight. The theme is based on the myth of Icarus and his father, master and inventor Daedalus. But while acting out the tragic theme of Icarus, who fell to his death, his adherents, Strange Fruit, successfully overcome the law of gravity.

The Field is a 45-minute performance in which eight participants act out a joyous and intriguing courting ritual.

At a height of 6 meters above the ground, six men sway in the sky looking at once like angels and demons, hawks and doves who seem to fluctuate between good and evil.

Their ballet in the air evokes a range of diverse feelings within: fear, trepidation, rapture... They soar above the ground and contemplating these strange birds from the Australian Strange Fruit Company arouses a sense of tremulous expectancy.
