«The Forest» is not only the first work of the remarkable Russian director at the Comedie-Fransaise, but also the first production of Ostrovsky’s play on France’s major stage. The production was tremendously successful, both with the public and the Parisian critics.
For the first time the Comedie - Franqaise went on tour in the Soviet Union (Moscow and Leningrad) in 1954 with the productions of Moliere’s «Thrtuffe» and Corneille's «Le Cid». The following tours were in 1964, 1969, 1973 and 1985. Time has come to revive this interrupted tradition.
