Anamika Haksar is a theatre director, a student of Badal Sircar, and a graduate of the National School of Drama (1979-1982) and GITIS (1988), where she graduated with honors. She is the only Indian theatre professional to have graduated from this prestigious Moscow university. In the 1990s, she developed the directing curriculum for the National School of Drama. Haksar has trained a galaxy of renowned directors and actors for theatre, film, and television. She is considered the founder of a new visual-poetic theatrical language in India and has contributed to the development of Indian realism. She is one of the few theatre practitioners who have developed a pedagogical approach to teaching directing and acting. Her productions have redefined Indian realism. She has directed over 25 plays and served on the Academic Council of the National School of Drama. Haksar is the only representative from India to have studied the Stanislavski system in the USSR.
She is a recipient of the prestigious Sanskriti Award (1995) for her contribution to the development of a new language in Indian theatre.

Anamika will share her experiences and discuss the influence of the Soviet theatre school on Indian theatre.

Following the lecture, there will be a screening of her film "Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon" (I Lead the Horse to Eat Jalebis). The film has participated in over 35 international and national film festivals.
