The journey of the aquareves

Artistic director Sylvestre Jamet / France

he Malabar theatre is already 38 years old, and for all these years it has remained true to itself, diligently roaming the fantasy universe and carrying into that trip spectators from all countries and continents.

In the puffs of smoke and rising foam, to the accompaniment of cries of the rapt crowd and sounds of hard rock, the square is entered by a white ship of glorious beauty, escorted by weird creatures – either huge insects, or wonderful birds or lost angels. These messengers from the world of dreams rush into our everyday life, transforming it into something unreal, mysterious and entirely different from all the things we commonly see around us. Light, music, masks, stilts, pyrotechnics, acrobatic tumbles and somersaults, ropewalkers and jugglers – this is a very incomplete list of what the French International Malabar Group incorporates within the space of its performance.

A huge lunar ship will land on the square tomorrow and ride through the arteries of the city, presenting a one more way of talking about the inventions. Aboard the ship are dreams of watery extravaganzas, in which fantastic and weird creatures fill up the square and turn into musicians, jugglers, acrobats and stilts-walkers. Their promise is to disturb the quiet commonness and transfer the spectators to other times, other planets or the other reality.
