Nina Chusova has not simply staged 'The Storm as someone from an essentially new era. a totally free person. She has, at the same time, given freedom to all the characters of the production, to these untied young people for whom everything is permissible and who do what they like, knowing neither fear nor shame.... Only Katia Kabanova, excellently played by Chulpan Khamatova, is more afraid than the others: a little runaway girl, who knows not just by hearsay about the attributes of passion, and who carries within her a strong destructive power.
Izvestiya
The fragile, short-haired, unusually sensual Katerina of Chulpan Khamatova reminds through her plasticity and her sharp, hoarse-sounding voice of a little rocker-girl. She is like those people who. from youth onwards, are tempted by a game with death, and who do not jit into any framework of ordinary life: who ignore the social command, and who sooner or later find an untimely end.
