Sisters Grimm, the creators of the Grammy Award nominated Inala, once again fuse cultures and artistic disciplines in a new production Voices of the Amazon. The story of Beleza, a water spirit of the Amazon River, who goes in search of a cure for her dying sister, is based on legends and myths of the Amazon tribes. Sisters Grimm engaged an international creative team including collaborating with Brazilian songwriters Danny Nascimento, Dito Martins and American choreographer Helen Pickett and working with Brazilian national treasures, the percussion group Olodum. The choreographic score of the show involves ballet, contemporary and Capoeira, and sound design abounds with woven sounds of the Amazon and it’s animals, recorded on the creatives’ research trips there.
