Yekaterinburg occupies a special place in the Regional Programme of the International Chekhov Theatre Festival.
Since 2009, audiences have seen performances by outstanding figures of world theatre: Peter Brook, Anatoly Vasiliev, Declan Donnellan, Philippe Genty, LIN Hwai‑min, Russell Maliphant, Giorgio Strehler, Aurélia and James Thiérrée‑Chaplin, Daniele Finzi Pasca, and many others. This year, Narine Grigoryan, Honoured Artist of Armenia, and Zhao Liang, the renowned "shepherd from the East," will present their productions.
On 17 and 18 June 2024 – the one‑woman show "The Buffalo", based on a work by Grant Matevosyan – a parable about a buffalo overcoming numerous obstacles in search of a bull to continue her lineage. What can ungulates teach us, and how do the invisible threads of the universe connect all living things into a single whole?
On 3 and 4 July – the production "Tea Spell", inspired by the contemplation of an ancient tea set discovered during excavations at a Tang Dynasty temple, will reveal the secrets of sacred ceremonies and offer a fresh perspective on the relationship between man and woman. The production features three characters – a woodcutter, an officer and a monk – representing three different human types. What happens to each of them when they encounter a beautiful lady?
