On 10 September, Karina Sergeyevna Tsaturova – General Director of the International Chekhov Theatre Festival, Head of the International Pacific Theatre Festival, and Vice‑President and Secretary‑General of the International Confederation of Theatre Unions – celebrates her birthday.
A message from the teams:
Dear Karina Sergeyevna,
Today we may allow ourselves to break with the usual conventions of birthday celebrations. After all, today is a bright and beautiful celebration for you – though, in fact, it is not a milestone anniversary. But why should we be stopped by boundaries that should not be crossed? No, we simply will not notice them.
The date is so beautiful, so different from all others in every way.
And we can say without hesitation that the journey you, dear Karina Sergeyevna, have made since the founding of the International Confederation of Theatre Unions and the creation of the International Chekhov Theatre Festival – is truly admirable.
We are delighted to congratulate you on this anniversary!
You had the good fortune to begin your career at the USSR Union of Theatre Workers at the age of 21, in the position of Chief Accountant, which you took on the initiative of the great Russian theatre figure – Kirill Yuryevich Lavrov. The trust of such a person had a profound influence on you. Later, you were fortunate to serve the theatre alongside people who constitute the intellect, honour and conscience of our own and world theatre culture. This chapter of your biography holds a special place, and you recall that unique time with pride. Alongside you were great people – theatre figures who shared their experience and knowledge. And you – a bright, strong, talented woman – absorbed every word, so that today you might worthily continue the work of their lifetimes.
You are an example of a determined and dedicated person. You serve the theatre selflessly, and you demand the same from those around you. This is the only way to achieve success. It is vitally important that you remain at the helm of a great ship that stays its course towards its goal. And our goal is one: to preserve the work created by our great predecessors, and to do everything in our power for the development of our own and world theatre.
And you, dear Karina Sergeyevna, are doing everything to keep our flagship afloat and on the chosen course.
The course that, at the very beginning of a difficult but brilliant journey, was charted by Valery Ivanovich Shadrin – who inspired so many to devoted labour.
We wish you the strength to accomplish everything that Valery Ivanovich envisioned, and to write your own bright page in the history of the Chekhov Festival!
May God grant you happiness and health, strength and patience, well‑being and the fulfilment of your wishes, the realisation of all your creative plans, and joy – no matter what difficulties may arise!
