Bahrain's Al Sawari Theatre presents "The Foundation" at Chekhov Festival

The first performance of the production "The Foundation" by Bahrain's Al Sawari Theatre has taken place.

A theatre company from Bahrain has visited Russia for the first time as part of the 17th International Chekhov Theatre Festival. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Bahrain, and the arrival of a theatre from the Gulf region opens a new chapter in cultural ties.

The performance was attended by H.E. Ahmed Abdulrahman Mahmoud Ismail Al-Saati, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Russia, who came to support the company. Two further performances are scheduled, one of which will be followed by a meeting with the audience.

The Festival will run until 25 July. The World Series programme features 13 performances from 12 countries. In addition, the Festival includes the Moscow Programme and the Educational Programme. The Regional Programme will take place in Voronezh, Kazan and Yekaterinburg. On 9 June, an open-air photography exhibition, "Theatre Arts of the BRICS Countries within the Chekhov Festival", will open on Arbat Street in Moscow.

The 17th International Chekhov Theatre Festival is held with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Moscow Government, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, and the Moscow Department of Culture.
