International Kirill Lavrov Award presented for first time in St Petersburg
The International Kirill Lavrov Award "For Support and Promotion of Russian Culture" has been presented for the first time in St Petersburg.
The award was established to mark the centenary of the birth of the People's Artist of the USSR, who devoted his life to supporting Russian theatres abroad and for many years headed the International Confederation of Theatre Unions.
"For me, the memory of my father is not simply that of an actor and an outstanding cultural figure – it is also a daughter's memory. When his name is heard less and less often, it pains me more than anyone. That is why today I am filled with joy. Kirill Yuryevich genuinely cared for the Bolshoi Drama Theatre and for the Confederation, both of which he led. He cared for Russian classical theatre, for the Russian repertory theatre – that was always at the heart of his struggle," said Maria Lavrova, Kirill Yuryevich's daughter, an actress at the BDT and a member of the Award's Board of Trustees, in her greeting to the guests.
Among the laureates are Lev Dodin, Evgeny Mironov and the M. Lermontov National Russian Drama Theatre (Almaty). We congratulate all the awardees!
