"Mamluk. Sultan Beybarys" presented at Chekhov Festival

The first performance of "Mamluk. Sultan Beybarys" by the Alatau Traditional Art Theatre and StarTDrama Theatre Laboratory (Kazakhstan) has taken place at the International Chekhov Theatre Festival. The director, Farkhad Moldagali, is one of the leaders of Kazakhstan's new theatrical wave.

This epic production in the soundrama genre features several dozen performers and transports the audience back eight centuries to the era of Sultan Beybarys – a figure whose legacy continues to spark debate among historians. How did a native of the Kazakh steppes, sold into slavery as a child, rise to become one of the greatest rulers of the Middle East? His reign was marked not only by military victories over the Mongols and Crusaders but also by wise governance that secured peace and stability for his subjects.
