Argentine production of "Measure for Measure (It's Your Fault)" presented at Chekhov Festival
The 17th International Chekhov Theatre Festival presents "Measure for Measure (It's Your Fault)" – a production inspired by William Shakespeare's play, directed by Gabriel Chame Buendía (Argentina). The first performance took place on 15 July on the stage of the Yermolova Theatre.
"Measure for Measure" offers an original vision by Argentine director Gabriel Chame Buendía of Shakespeare's play – a contemporary adaptation full of eccentricity, provocation and striking relevance. The entire production is a sparkling piece of buffoonery. Five performers masterfully take on multiple roles, instantly transforming from one character to another. The tempo, physicality and synchronicity of movement are simply mesmerising.
In 2024, the production received four of Argentina's highest theatre awards – the María Guerrero Awards from the Association of Friends of the National Theatre of Cervantes: Best Production, Best Director and Best Text Adaptation (Gabriel Chame Buendía), and Best Actor (Matías Bassi).
Further performances will take place on 16, 17 and 18 July.
