Members of the International Confederation of Theatre Unions honour the memory of Kirill Lavrov
On the centenary of the birth of Kirill Lavrov, members of the board of the International Confederation of Theatre Unions began the day by laying flowers at the Bogoslovskoye Cemetery in St Petersburg.
The resting place of Kirill Lavrov and his wife Valentina Nikolayeva is located here, rather than at a memorial cemetery, in accordance with Kirill Yuryevich's own will. This commemorative day holds great significance for the Confederation's President, Karina Tsaturova, and her colleagues – representatives of theatre unions from Armenia, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
"We not only honour Kirill Yuryevich's memory – we feel his presence among us. He unites us, as he always did, and as only he knew how to do," said Tsaturova.
After the flower‑laying ceremony, the Confederation delegation joined their colleagues from the Bolshoi Drama Theatre for the unveiling of a foundation stone at the site of a future monument to Lavrov in Oranienbaum Garden, in the Petrogradsky district. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of St Petersburg, Alexander Beglov; Lavrov's daughter, Maria; his granddaughter, Olga; his one‑year‑old great‑granddaughter, Ksenia; members of the BDT company and local residents.
