Today, we celebrate the birthday of a person whose professional life is inseparably connected with international theatre and with major cultural projects that have long become an integral part of her life.
Karina Sergeevna Tsaturova — General Director of the A.P. Chekhov International Theatre Festival, President of the International Confederation of Theatrical Unions, and Head of the International Pacific Theatre Festival. Behind each of these projects lies an enormous amount of work, decades of experience, international connections, the trust of the professional community and, above all, the personal energy of someone who knows how to see new possibilities even in the most challenging times.
Karina Tsaturova is one of those people for whom theatre extends far beyond the stage and the performance itself. For her, theatre is a space for dialogue between countries and cultures, an opportunity to build connections where they are most needed, and a responsibility to ensure that the international theatre movement continues to live, evolve and open new horizons. And, time and again, to affirm Russia’s status as the world’s great theatre country.
Her professional reputation, profound knowledge of the international theatre landscape, ability to bring people together and extraordinary dedication make it possible to keep moving forward, overcome circumstances and bring to life projects that only yesterday might have seemed impossible.
It is especially important that, thanks to Karina Sergeevna, the legacy of Valery Ivanovich Shadrin is not simply preserved — it continues to live and evolve. The traditions he established are given new life, new directions are being developed, new projects are being created, and the geography of international theatre cooperation continues to expand.
Today, the Chekhov Festival, the International Confederation of Theatrical Unions and the International Pacific Theatre Festival are three different yet interconnected spaces, each carrying forward one great idea: theatre has the power to bring people and cultures together, regardless of borders or circumstances.
