The 4th Pacific International Theatre Festival Comes to a Close in Vladivostok

A spectacular finale: the 4th Pacific International Theatre Festival concluded in Vladivostok

On October 11th, the 4th Pacific International Theatre Festival (PITF) came to a close in Vladivostok. In keeping with a wonderful tradition, the final highlight was Dead Souls, a unique theatrical and musical performance.
The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre became the venue for a truly magical experience: Nikolai Gogol’s immortal words, performed by Evgeny Mironov and Maria Smolnikova, merged with the powerful and intricate music of Alfred Schnittke. The musical performance was conducted  by maestro Yuri Bashmet and his outstanding Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Evgeny Mironov, People's Artist of Russia, Artistic director of the State Theatre of Nations:
“When our first festival was being created, we were finding our way almost by touch. Since then, the project has grown enormously. I can hardly imagine the tremendous effort this takes from the entire team, especially in the circumstances we face today. We remain full of enthusiasm and sincerely hope that the next festival, a special anniversary edition, will also take place here in Vladivostok!”

Yuri Bashmet, People's Artist of the USSR, conductor, Grammy winner:
“Vladivostok is a very important city in our country, with its own traditions and a thriving musical scene. This is my homeland, our vast country — that is what continually draws me here. I have performed in this hall many times and remember its very first season. Returning here is always a special joy.”

The Pacific Festival ran in Vladivostok from September 18th to October 11th. This large-scale international project is implemented as part of the Programme for the Development of Theatre Arts in the Russian Far East, a national initiative aimed at fostering the region’s theatrical life.
The festival is organised by the expert team of the Chekhov International Theatre Festival, with the participation of the Theatre of Nations. Behind the international programme, complex logistics, negotiations, and the many encounters between artists and audiences lies an immense amount of professional work — and a shared belief in theatre’s power to bring people and cultures together.
The Pacific Festival is held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Government of Primorsky Krai. Channel One is the festival’s general partner.
For several weeks, the festival brought the magic of theatre to the entire Russian Far East, presenting 13 outstanding and highly diverse productions from 13 countries. It also delivered an extensive educational programme and brought together thousands of audience members, reaffirming Russia’s standing as a major cultural nation and the Russian Far East’s role as one of the country’s key cultural hubs.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the preparation, organisation and delivery of the 4th Pacific Festival.

See you at the 5th Pacific International Theatre Festival!
